Description

One of the most enduring acts in American music, Peter Paul And Mary both defined and transcended the 1960s folk revival. The trio's passionate commitment to peace and social justice made them the conscience of an era as they soulfully communicated political concerns through music in an unprecedented way. At the same time that they reached millions with their social message, they acheived phenomenal mass popularity.

5The very best of Peter, Paul and Mary  Jul 06, 2010
Absolutely brilliant; in my old age I had forgotten how really good these three were. The haunting voice of Mary and superb back up of Peter and Paul helps me relive my past.
Many thanks to P,P & M

5Very Best of Peter Paul & Mary  Jun 26, 2010
Great tunes, you don't have to be an aging hippie to appreciate this wonderful CD. Also thumbs up for Amazon, my origional order apparently was lost in the mail, they replaced the order through Fed Ex in good time.

5Delightful music, profound truths  Jun 19, 2010
This album is my first encounter with the group, Peter, Paul and Mary. Wow! What a fantastic trio with such a simple yet poignant style. I'm so used to pop-sounding recordings, it's nice to hear simple tunes played on actual instruments. The singers are pure and vibrant, and the appeal for social justice, although this group began singing several decades ago, ring true today and are very relevant. Some of my favorite songs are as follows:

1. "Lemon Tree," a bittersweet song, (symbolized by the allusion of the title), about lost love and innocence. Surprisingly, the tune is far from sad and is very catchy.
2. "If I Had a Hammer," a Pete Seeger song with a rousing, rollicking melody. This song is a cry for justice, freedom, and the need for love.
3. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" A beautiful, poignant song also written by Pete Seeger about the cycle of life and the effects of war.
4. "Puff, the Magic Dragon," a song I can't wait to teach to my niece when she's older. This song is about the heartbreak of growing up told from the perspective of a favorite childhood toy. Very sad.
5. "This Land is Your Land." Outstanding song that brings back memories from my schooldays.
6. "Wedding Song."
7. "Don't Laugh at Me," a very relevant song for today, a different style from the Mark Chestnut version but still very powerful.

All the songs are outstanding. For those who know about this group, this CD will bring back marvelous memories. For people like me, who are just getting acquainted with this marvelous group, this album showcases their best work. Please give this CD a chance. God bless you.
