It mostly works Apr 14, 2010 Install was a bit odd. It said I needed to uninstall Spybot. I did. I had no problem when I re-installed Spybot.
I cannot understand why they needed Spybot uninstalled.
Running my first scan was scary. It found several POSSIBLE viruses. I discovered HEUR means "heuristic" and means it might be malware. All had been declared OK by another virus checker. Some are major brands of software. It also detected out-dated software that had vulnerabilities. This was good. I was able to get an up-to-date patch as Kaspersky recommended. The anti-phishing part of the software ignored a site KNOWN to be a phishing site, and ignored the phishing software it offered as a download. I wouldn't normally download it, but I wanted to see if Kaspersky was as good as some of the reviews. I did not install the phishing software.
The major testers and reviewers gave Kaspersky high marks, and I trust it earned it. Just remember a virus protector is no replacement cautious surfing. This review only refers to the 2009 edition.
Kaspersky Installation CD Mar 07, 2010 Item took almost a month ro receive, no fault of the seller, it was mailed promptly. It arrived cracked and non-functional, careful packing may have prevented this. I contacted seller, he said just download the same program free from the Net. This resulted in a 30 day trial from Kaspersky, which I didn't purchase. All in all it was a bad experience and I wouldn't buy from this seller again. He never once offered a return of my purchase price.
not sure.. Dec 14, 2009 i have been using Kaspersky for almost 6 months now so i have had ample time to try it out. I started using this product at a time my laptop had been infected with a virus that Mcafee could not remove, hence my system crashed.I tried out kaspersky the virus was identified and deleted. However, it deleted the system file the virus was attached to so i had to re-install my OS.
I have to admit that Kaspersky does i very good job in identifying viruses and potentially harmful programmes, but what it does after identifying - i am not so sure. The first option given is to clean - usually this does not work; then it gives the option to delete- more often than not this also does not work so you end choosing the option to skip almost all the time. I am not much of a computer expert so i am left confounded as to the status of the identified harmful programme.
So while kaspersky has done a good job identifying viruses, what it does with them - i dont know.
At least, my system has not had any problem running since i installed the anti-virus so i guess it must be doing some work. So i give it three stars cause it solved my problem but it is hard to figure out how it works!!
Offers little more than the free versions available Dec 13, 2009 I found little in Kaspersky Anti-Virus to make it worth the money. One can easily download the AVG freeware or, better yet, sign up for Microsoft's free Security Essentials and be done with worrying about a virus.
I've been in this business since the beginning - building my first computer from a magazine article while a graduate student in 1973. I've used the Norton, McAfee, AVG and Microsoft's Security Essentials software and probably others that I cannot remember. They each offer an automatic update feature and I've never suffered viral damage. If one is free, and the others cost, the choice decision seems easy!

Decent software, but inferior to free versions Nov 05, 2009 First, (writing in Nov 2009) I believe the 2009 version I currently have is already outdated. I'm unaware of the history/reason my software, which was released just a few months ago, is already replaced -- too many errors? recall? Not sure.
Anyway ... this is a decent piece of software, not great. I agree with a lot of the complaints on the Amazon reviews - no product support, virus protection lacks (lots of false positives), and reports are not terribly useful. There are also some problems registering the product - they *really* want you to buy a new box every time, for every computer, which always causes problems.
My big problem with Kaspersky is a hint of greed behind the product line -- anybody who puts excessive protections on their software, at the expense of consumer convenience, has profit (not functionality or customer satisfaction) as their #1 goal. This hunch is reinforced by their lack of support - after you buy it, they seem not to care if it works for you.
But my BIGGEST problem with this, is that anti-virus protection should be free. If Kaspersky really believes in investing energy into this product, they should make it free to consumers and charge for upgrades/advances applications (such as network and business accounts). The fact is, this is already the business model for the top rated antivirus softwares.
So here's my recommendation: Get a free antivirus. The best one right now, according to reviews of the experts, is Avast. I've never had problems with Avast (except that it wants to update too often, but it only takes a few seconds). I used to run AVG, and loved it, but the new version is too clunky, lots of crashes.
*Everybody* should be running a hosts file, which Kaspersky completely ignores. The best currently is "hostsman" (and yes, it's free too).
And for firewall, the most recent IT studies say that the Windows XP or Vista firewall works as well as any other. It's free, and chances are you already have it. If you're running Me, 2000, or earlier, try ZoneEdit (also free).
If you're running Vista, you may want to try some of their built-in safeguards. I tried Vista for a while, and went back to XP (too clunky). But if you're on Vista, it's got some pretty decent safeguards already, and may not work well with 3rd party software.
My bottom line is, the computer is a tool which I want to *work* when I turn it on, not spend time or energy cleaning up viruses or other crap, and I should have to spend a fortune protecting it. I haven't had a problem in 4 years (and the last trojan was because my brother-in-law disabled the hosts protection on my laptop to download a game). So I wish you good luck and happy, trouble-free surfing!
