Satisfied Jul 13, 2010 Works well so far after almost two years. Good for everyday use. It can't really handle more open webpages in the same time. Needs relatively frequent reinstall, because it's getting slower over time and while it is slower than a normal computer it is getting annoyingly slow soon.
Not too many bloatware is included, which is welcome.
Exactly what I wanted, to replace original one... Apr 15, 2010 This Asus Eee 8.9" 900HA Netbook is no longer being sold from what I can tell. I found this one, new and was very excited to receive it. The seller did a great job from description to shipping and I dearly appreciate all their work towards getting it safely packaged to me.
I love this Netbook with the 160gb HDD and would not want any SSD drives. I beleive it is the smallest Netbook out there. It is solid built and with the leather binder I bought that goes around it (from Target), it is a great handheld item to carry around.
Battery lasts pretty good. Screen is excellent. Keyboard is very good.
Nothing bad to say about it at all...
Overall, if you can find one of there, grab it!
Reliable, light weight, and inexpensive Mar 13, 2010 I had this 900HA Asus eee pc for about a year now. I wanted to wait for sometime before I gave a review. I bought this pc from Amazon. The shipment and packaging were great. It was free shipping. I bought it for $300. By the time I received the package, the price dropped to $280. About two or three years ago, this small little machine would have cost $3000-$5000. As soon as Asus came out , I bought this brand new machine for dirt cheap. I am very happy with this machine. I can live with a few bad things:
1. The texts were very small. Elderly please be aware. I am constantly hit Shift + to increase text size then zoom back out.
2. When I first turned it on, it worked great. Surfing the web is pretty fast.
But as soon as I installed anti-virus software, it slow down to a crawl.
Forget about multi-tasking.
I used Symantec anti-virus, but it was slowing down the machine.
I then used microsoft free anti-virus. It was a little better, but microsoft anti-virus wasn't performed very well. It was constantly upgrading or freezing, ect.
I then used Online-armor antivirus. If I turned on all the features, the machine will slow down and a lot of popup. I only turned on anti-virus and fire-wall feature only. Now, surfing the web and using Microsoft office are enjoyable. Once in awhile the machine freeze. I don't know why. I just pressed on/off button to restart window.
3.Watching movies or YouTube were very jerky. I don't remember exactly what I did, but I remembered to turn everything to normal (not maximum.) Video and audio stop jerking.
But, for the price of $300 I am very happy with this machine. I am also appreciate that Asus put the XP-OS on the protected hard drive. One time this machine got infected with a serious virus. I just reinstalled from scratch. I worked fine after that. Great machine. I am very happy with it.
Works as intended Feb 28, 2010 The portability of this computer is amazing. The keyboard does take some getting used to but slowly I am making fewer mistakes with it. I like the screen brightness, even on low-power it is still plenty bright. I've been using it with a mobile wireless broadband USB stick from Virgin which uses the same network as Sprint. I'm able to do video Skype and everything with it from anywhere. Also comes in very handy on the bus and airplanes, where it can be whipped out in a few seconds and used to check e-mail and such. The lightweight is also a big added bonus, really helps your shoulders if you carry it in a backpack. The case it comes with is also very useful, keeps scratches and dings off of it. I bought mine refurbished for just $250, so really can't complain about anything. It is just like new plus has a three month warranty.
Great Great buy!! Feb 16, 2010 I've had my Asus Eee pc 900HA since last May (10 months now) and this has definitely been one of the best purchase decisions I've made! A classmate had one and I was instantly intrigued by the size, convenience and portability so asked his opinion and I did a little research of my own. Because I was preparing for lots of travel during the summer and a regular laptop would be very inconvenient to carry (it's amazing how much difference 10 pounds when making packing decisions) and only needed the basics (office, internet, skype, picture storage, etc.) I gave it a try. Wonderful!! Yes, the keyboard is small but, I find it to be more than just a step up from a cell phone. Runs just as fast, if not faster than my desktop, is very light, and great for multitasking. I upgraded the RAM to 2 gigs, very easy to do.
The main reason I give it a 4 out of 5 is that when i tried to install photoshop the resolution had to be changed, which makes it strange when the screen shifts around. But, i can still run other programs, even movies when I plug in an external cd drive. The speakers could be louder too. Also, I ordered the 1000HA for my mom a few months later, it's a 10 inch, and that actually makes getting used the keyboard a little easier. She loves it. I backup all my files to my desktop, but have never had any problems with losing anything. The price is very reasonable and I can take it anywhere. I definitely recommend one.
